Resolution opposing the proposed

Recreation fees for the

Shawnee National Forest by the

United States Forest Service

 

 

 

WHEREAS, the lower counties in southern Illinois are the most economically depressed in the state; and

 

WHEREAS, the lower counties in southern Illinois depend on tourism as a major source of revenue; and

 

WHEREAS, the forests were created for free public use and that undue hardship on individuals would occur; and

 

WHEREAS, hikers, equestrians, repellers, spelunkers, and hunters pay federal taxes; and

 

WHEREAS, the proposed fees are higher than neighboring National Forests and Recreation Areas; and

 

WHEREAS, the Forest Service is not using sound practices in forest management; and

 

WHEREAS, the Forest Service’s interpretation of the guidelines for the proposed Recreation Fees are unclear and lack continuity;

 

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:______________________________________

is opposed to the passage of the proposed Recreation Fees by the United State Forest Service for the Shawnee National Forest.
